**Rare opportunity to join a Capital City Waste and Cleaning Management team**:

- **Full-time maximum term contract (5 years)**:

**This key leadership role will see you leading our Capital City Waste and Cleaning Management team whilst being supported by an experienced operations team**

You will be responsible for effectively leading and managing the Waste and Cleaning team across a diverse range of activities including residential and commercial waste collection, street sweeping and cleaning, as well as waste education. This role will work collaboratively with the waste transformation team to ensure the design, implementation, and evaluation of strategic projects is effective and efficient.

**You will be supporting the City by**:

- Mentor and develop senior members of the team to understand and deliver a contemporary governance service.
- Lead, foster, and facilitate operational innovation, change, and continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with the Strategic Community Plan, Corporate Business Plan and the Service Units Business Plan.
- Undertake feasibility, planning and budget preparation of the waste and cleaning operations and support function improvement projects.
- Exercise control for the planning, direction, coordination and evaluation of waste and cleaning business objectives which includes, liaising with the Waste Transformation Specialist as needed to optimise outcomes.
- Track, monitor and report on budgets and supervise expenditure on implemented waste and cleaning projects and programs.
- Undertake financial investigations and audits as required.
- Identify and manage risks in the waste and cleaning service.
- Undertake research, liaise with the Waste Transformation Specialist and make recommendations on service development, service enhancement, quality and growth opportunities.
- Attendance at evening meetings required from time to time.

**Essential criteria**
- Tertiary qualification in sustainable waste management, environmental science or relevant discipline, or minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated extensive and diverse leadership and people management experience, with an ability to create, develop and energise teams and foster a high performing workforce.
- Demonstrated experience in optimising operations and financial management.
- Thorough knowledge of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007 (WARR) as well as relevant State and Local Government legislation.
- Excellent organisational skills and judgment, including an ability to work on multiple projects, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines despite competing priorities.
- ‘C’ class drivers licence.
- Ability to obtain a clear National Police Clearance
