**Position Title**:Carer Support Worker

**Award and Level**:Social, Community, Homecare and Disability Workers Award

Casual Pay Point 3

**Hours of Work**:Negotiable up to 10 hours a week.

**Accountable To**:CEO

**Qualifications: Essential**:TertiaryQualifications in Aged or Community Care or relevant experience

Experience working with family carers

Experience facilitating group activities

Current drivers licence (manual)

Current First Aid Certificate Level 2

Current Police Check

**Desirable**:Experience working with people living with dementia and their family carers

**Position Objectives**

This position is to provide appropriate support to family carers in the Outer East. This position aims to support the family carers to remain independent and connected to their own community through a range of support activities and social participation. The position also facilitates carers to access appropriate and timely respite from their caring role.

This position is part of the Social Support Team. This role will assist Caladenia’s Programs to run efficiently and effectively in accordance with State and Commonwealth Guidelines and Caladenia Policies and Procedures.

The carer Support Worker will be working under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer.

**Carer Support**
- To plan and facilitate monthly carer support meetings, and bi-monthly YOD carer support meetings.
- To identify gaps or needs in the community and work within budget to address these.
- To plan and facilitate other carers activities, holidays, education, lunches and respite activities.
- To manage the Carer support budget appropriately and report regularly to the CEO
- To complete reports and collate outcomes of the carer support program
- Demonstrated skills and experience of the issue that family carers face, which must include knowledge of the needs of the target group, the ability to organise programs and activities effectively, and knowledge of how to run programs in a safe and appropriate state.
- Participate in reviews of service provision to enhance the service system at Caladenia

**Administration**
- At the appropriate level for the position, learn and implement administrative procedures.

**Promote a Safe Working Environment**
- Provide a safe work environment at all times in accordance with the documented program guidelines and Caladenia’s WH&S / Risk Management procedures.

**Client and Carer health/wellbeing**

Observe the general wellbeing of carers and clients, and report any perceived changes to the Team Leader for any documentation/follow up necessary.

**WH&S**

Be aware of the safety of all persons within the program at all times and report unsafe situations to the Team Leader/WHS officer

**Accountability and Extent of Authority**

Management Responsibilities:
Implementation of safe and effective programs and supports for the target group under the guidance of the CEO

Statutory Responsibilities:
Compliance with all CHSP Guidelines and Victorian State Government Guidelines

Compliance with all relevant traffic and licensing laws

Financial Accountability:
Control Petty Cash/Card for purchase of program resources

**Judgement and Decision Making**

Responsible for the implementation of safe and effective carer programs with guidance from the CEO

Issues and concerns relating to the efficient provision of the carer support program are to be discussed with the Team Leader or CEO

Issues and concerns about clients or their carers are discussed with and brought to the attention of the Team Leader.

**Specialist Skills and Knowledge**

Experience and knowledge in working with carers in a support group setting.

Experience in working with people with dementia, and a knowledge of the issues and particular needs of the target group.

**Interpersonal Skills**

Ability to work as part of a team.

Ability to communicate appropriately with staff, clients and family members

Written and verbal Communications skills appropriate to work with carers and the public.

**Qualifications and Experience/Selection Criteria**
