I am currently partnered with a Federal Government Agency who is seeking an EL1 Independent Advisor, Independent Advisory Council for a 12-month temporary assignment, with the potential to extend.

**Your new role**

This role will be primarily responsible for supporting the work of four reference groups. Another key focus of this role will be supporting reference group members who live with intellectual disability or are young people. This may include one on one support to build capacity and / or establishment of peer support mechanisms.

In this role you will demonstrate capability including:

- An understanding of lived experience and understanding of the disability sector; providing expert advice and strategic direction that is regarded as an authoritative source.
- Experience in devising and implementing strategic advice expertise and research to continually improve the provision of Advice.
- Experience in developing advice that considers work plans, corporate priorities, the disability system, and its mainstream interfaces.
- Experience in managing strategic, advisory, or legislated relationships.
- Experience in writing for government organisations.
- Ability to represent in high level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders, including external providers and organisations to share information, explain expectations and influence outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

- Working with Principal Members, Reference Group members and Secretariat to identify and propose solutions to strategic challenges facing the Agency
- Supporting reference group members from a range of cohorts to engage well
- Provide pre briefs and mentoring as required
- Facilitating reference group meeting discussions
- Undertaking research on behalf of the reference groups
- Assist with the development and delivering discussion papers, reports, and advice for submission to the Board
- Assisting with independent projects on special topics and reference group work plans
- Progressing work of subgroups and working groups
- Supporting induction of new reference group members

**What you'll need to succeed**

To succeed, you will need:

- An understanding of lived experience and understanding of the disability sector
- Experience providing expert advice and strategic direction that is regarded as an authoritative source.
- Sound strategic understanding of those living with disability
- Experience in devising and implementing strategic advice
