**The Opportunity**

The Engagement Assistant Director role is a key leadership position within the Eastern NSW (ENSW) region. The Assistant Director is the champion of the ENSW Leadership Team and a member of the Eastern Group Leadership Team. The role has people, program and stakeholder management responsibilities. They manage employees and take responsibility for their overall performance.

The role nurtures and manages a range of key internal and external stakeholder relationships and networks. The Engagement Assistant Director works with a considerable degree of independence, under broad direction from the Director. They are responsible for planning and delivering aspects of the ENSW work program, reporting on progress against performance and quality indicators. They are responsible for ensuring that performance measures for the region are met. They contribute to the development of branch strategic plans and lead the development of business cases and project plans for new initiatives, this may include the following:

- lead teams to deliver the NIAA's work program within the Agency's Key Performance Measures and quality indicators
- oversee the development, coaching and mentoring of staff and invest time into understanding team member's strengths and aspirations
- identifying and fostering emerging talent to ensure succession planning is maintained
- effectively manage relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders and service providers, promote the NIAA's business objectives through key strategic relationships
- actively lead the decision making and strategic planning within the allocated work area, fostering and supporting Section/Branch/NIAA goals and objectives to meet assigned outcomes
- manage the strategic delivery of a program, project or special initiative and be responsible for related outcomes
- plan, implement, manage and monitor work processes, and set performance indicators
- review a function, program, policy, project or initiative and drive quality assurance and continuous improvement practices
- conduct risk assessment and risk management activities for area of responsibility
- research, analyse and develop complex policy, procedures or programs that require a detailed analysis of diverse data and views where there are a range of viable options
- understand and exercise appropriate delegations when providing expert advice and support on programs, policy, legislation, systems and/or processes that contribute to the strategic direction of NIAA
- create a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture and how it influences the workplace and interactions, is understood
- guide the implementation of culturally appropriate strategies for working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- knowledge about the key issues faced by First Nations peoples and have sound judgement, professionalism and the capacity to work flexibly and responsively to achieve results
- demonstrated experience working with Elders and key stakeholders from across the region to build capacity and promote joint partnerships and place-based solutions and opportunities
- a commitment to creating a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture and how it influences the workplace and interactions, is understood and celebrated
- investment in the team's success and will champion multiple perspectives and encourage continuous cultural learning and professional development.
