The Opportunity:
This is an exciting time for the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) employees as they work in genuine partnership to enable the self-determination and aspirations of First Nations communities.
The NIAA has a current vacancy for a Senior Engagement Officer, based in Parramatta, NSW. The Engagement Senior officer role has program and stakeholder management responsibilities and works within a small team to deliver high quality services and policy implementation, and to ensure that performance measures are met within desired timeframes. They may be required to undertake management or have over-sight of small projects for the team and assist with larger projects for the branch.
The Senior Engagement Officer will contribute to a strong team culture, and encourage innovation, where staff are valued and supported, while ensuring commitment to producing quality outcomes.
This role includes the following duties and is expected to be conducted with a broad degree of self-direction:
• contribute to a culture that aligns with NIAA values and fosters high performing teams who are dedicated to achieving quality program outcomes
• manage complex stakeholder relationships with key Indigenous organisations and government advisory bodies
• collaborate and negotiate with a range of stakeholders
• support project and program management activities, including the development of team goals, strategies and work plans for the business area
• work strategically and in partnership to deliver economic development outcomes and progress local aspirations
• provide considered and high-quality advice, drawn from diverse sources
• bring experience, strategic thinking and innovative ideas to improve policy, practice and workplace performance
• apply strong negotiation skills working with a range of stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes and build strong ties with community.
Our Ideal Candidate:
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following attributes and abilities:
• ability to work and collaborate within a small team and proven capability to work autonomously and independently
• demonstrated understanding of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities across Greater Sydney, their needs, aspirations and priorities, emerging issues and the service delivered to communities within this region
• represent the Agency to engage and build relationships with First Nations corporations, Community Traditional Owners, Elders, Leaders and Partners
• experience in previous project management and desire to further strengthen knowledge and subject matter
• well-developed written and verbal communication skills and a strong analytical lens
• provide technical support and operational guidance and direction to the team.
