**The Role**
The APS6 Program Management Support Officer is responsible under broad direction to perform and achieve complex program management work within an integrated workforce of Military, APS and contracted employees. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
The Program Management Support Officer is expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. The Program Management Support Officer will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement through the coordination of program deliverables and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or difficult issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
**About our Team**
The Maritime Domain Support Office (MDSO) is a key management resource within the Navy Capability Division (NCD) that enables robust decision making, planning and the delivery of Maritime Domain Capability effects in support of the Joint Force.
As an APS6 Program Management Support Officer in the MDSO, you will be assigned to one of the five Maritime Domain Programs and will support the Program Manager to undertake program management office functional services that better facilitate program control and senior decision making across the Maritime Domain. You will play a crucial role in supporting the MDSO to deliver on its seven key outcomes as follows:
- Optimised multi-program and warfighting capability outcomes for the Maritime Domain.
- Capability outcomes are priorities and adapted to provide greater responsiveness to a dynamic strategic environment.
- Data is utilised effectively to drive improvement and more efficient decision making.
- More effective risk identification and management.
- Migration of the NCD from a project focus to a program capability effects focus.
- Improved enabling support services to HNC and Program Sponsors (Director Generals).
- Embedded cultural change through professionalisation and encouraging One Defence collaborative behaviours.
- Manage a range of program activities and coordinate inputs in accordance with organisational practices, methods and standards appropriate to the complexity of the programs.
- Coordinate management of schedule, risk, budget and resources that support the preparation of briefings, submissions, reports relating to the program progress and issues in accordance with organisational requirements.
- Build and sustain stakeholder relationships including the ability to communicate with influence and negotiate effectively.
- Work collaboratively by building effective relationships with team members and actively participating in group activities.
- Resolve issues by identifying and developing ideas through analysis of alternative courses of action and their implications.
- Provide input into the development of program planning, performance, cost and schedule documents and work breakdown structures in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards.
- Analyse and ensure all program outputs are in compliance with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
