**Your new role**:
As part of the Defence Delivery and Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) lead teams, this role has functional and leadership responsibility for all Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) within BAE Systems Defence Delivery operational areas. This is a critical role responsible for developing and maturing our SHE culture, leads the implementation of the SHE strategy through the operational Business Partners, and drives SHE capability within the operational context.
This high profile key role will promote continuous improvement of SHE performance, collaborating with the Business Unit Lead Teams to develop plans and provide safe and healthy working conditions for our people and others, and the protection of the environment.
More specifically, you will
- Collaborate with HR to build people strategies to strengthen SHE capabilities across all levels of the organization.
- Lead the development of a safe work environment and SHE culture in which employees take ownership of their work, supports innovative thinking, cooperation, collaboration, diversity, and safe work systems.
- Develop and implement the SHE strategy and plans to support the business and functions in providing workplace safety in collaboration with the National Head of Safety, Health, and Environment and their peers.
- Advise Executive Leaders on SHE strategy and activities to ensure that the company takes responsibility for worker safety and a healthy working environment.
- Contribute to the overall direction of SHE by reporting and analyzing safety trends, developing the SHE strategy, and making recommendations for enhanced performance.
- Through involvement and engagement, operationalize the SHE strategy and safety plans to provide actual results in each line of business.
- Support business unit and functional directors by analyzing data to identify issues and trends, and collaborates with them to implement effective risk-reduction policies.
- Provide operational input on the efficacy and compliance of the Enterprise SHE Management System and related activities produced from the SHE functional streams, while supporting ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.
- Ensure that the SHE operational structure allows for the safety of work and project deliverables while supporting the SHE plan.
- Lead major incident investigations and ensures that lessons learned are shared with the functional SHE stream.
- Motivate, excite, and inspire employees and operational leaders to ensure safety is a priority and to develop a safety culture through change efforts.
About you
**As an applicant for this opportunity, you will have**:
- Tertiary qualifications in SH&E or a similar area (i.e. environmental, safety engineering) are required.
- Exceptional leadership and influencing skills with the ability to use multiple leadership styles to motivate performance and engage the workforce to manage through change
- Comprehensive senior safety management expertise in managing a team and delivering safety and environmental performance through business leaders in a high-risk, complicated setting.
- Fundamental understanding of concepts, principles, and practices gained by extensive Senior Safety Management experience in a high-risk, complex environment (for example, mining, construction, manufacturing, and petrochemical).
- Experience deploying successful safety management strategies and guiding organizations to new certification standards is required.
- Ability to work within a matrix structure, balance competing objectives in order to meet customer and company requirements, and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Strong coaching skills in growing SH&E professionals and company leaders to understand and perform their safety and environmental duties and behaviors.
