**Division Responsibilities**

The Primary Care Division leads and delivers policy reform and programs to support

equitable access to quality, coordinated and culturally appropriate primary health care

services. Primary Care operates at the centre of the health system to improve the health

and wellbeing of all Australians across the life course.

**Branch Responsibilities**

The Primary Health Networks (PHN) Branch is responsible for the policy development for,

and management of, the PHN Program. This program funds 31 organisations to commission

primary care services nationwide to meet prioritised unmet health needs in their regions.

The Branch is responsible for a variety of policy and program functions. The work is dynamic

and fast-paced, aimed at improving our health system. The PHN Branch, supports

continuous improvement and innovation in service delivery, works with key stakeholders

across the Department of Health, other Government agencies as well as other stakeholders,

and undertakes and provides fit for purpose and best practice grant and program

management as part of supporting the successful delivery of the PHN Program.

**Section Responsibilities**

The PHN Policy Section is responsible for policy development of the PHN program and PHN

state and territory management. The work includes areas of planning, stakeholder

engagement, development and reform.***

**Key Responsibilities**

The role may include activities such as:

- Working under tight and competing deadlines to contribute to a program of policy

development including undertaking research and analysis to provide high quality

policy advice and support program improvement.
- Engaging with PHNs, LHNs and other key stakeholders on priority setting and PHN

operations.
- Preparation of briefing materials including cabinet submissions, ministerial

submissions, senate estimates briefings and question time briefs.
- Demonstrating leadership in building a positive culture within the Section and

Branch.
- Contributing to Branch/Division operations and planning and the development of

people capability.
- Acting as Assistant Secretary and representing the Assistant Secretary at stakeholder

meetings, often on short notice, as required.***

- Well-developed organisational and time management skills, including the ability to

prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Australia
