Primary focus To plan, direct and coordinate the operations of Supermarkets in the assigned State with a strong focus on fresh, driving sales with profit and a culture of being "The Friendliest Team". The Supermarket State Manager is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of all departments (excluding Liquor) and overarching company goals through the provision of effective methods and strategies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Sales and Performance Management - Prepare and participate in the preparation of budgets; - Assist in the development of strategic plans for company activity; - Maximise sales and profitability of the State; deliver sales, wages, expense, gross profit and trading profit budgets - Maximise productivity targets; - Deliver compliance: OH&S (customer and team safety), Food safety and labelling requirements - Identify internal and external commercial opportunities; - Suggest improvements based on benchmark practices. Inventory Management - Ensure effective inventory management in the State - annual stocktaking, order management, movement and transfer, optimum stock utilisation, stock return and shrinkage; - Review and analyse stock and sales reports, monitoring over and under stocks, implementing corrective action to be taken; - Review and effectively deal with fast/ slow lines, new ranges and end of ranges and implement necessary action; - Provision of feedback to concept on sales, stock positions and product feedback. Business Development - Seek opportunity for expansion in the State; - Build and maximise interdepartmental relationships such as with Buying and Liquor; - Manage roll-out of new projects and implementation of projects; - Understand State dynamics (demographics, consumer behaviour, market understanding etc.); - Manage roll out of store take overs, refurbishments and new store set ups; - Maintain and promote third party alliances such as supplier relationships and contracts; - Monitor the efficiency of support services such as IT, HR and Admin to facilitate communication with stores; - Monitor competitors and event activities. Operational Standards - Prepare State operating plan and ensure effective implementation; - Chair State meetings; - Ensure all stores are compliance with the store operating standards; Ritchies operating standards, OH&S (customer and team safety), Food safety, labelling requirements and weights & measures - Ensure all stores maintain quality of products; - Ensure all the stores are in compliance with the company policy, and legislative commitments to employment and safety standards; - Ensure all the stores portray the company image in all aspects of presentation and culture (being The Friendliest Team) - Ensure all store promotions are effectively planned, executed and maintained to Ritchies plan; - Manage maintenance of equipment and provide technical support where necessary. People Development - Manage and support the recruitment and succession process with an emphasis on being The Friendliest Team - Ensure that all direct reports understand their job and are inducted well within the company; - Establish work schedules for direct reports; - Monitor tasks and accountabilities of direct reports and conduct performance appraisals; - Drive motivation levels of the direct reports with a strong focus on their culture and leadership around being "The Friendliest Team - Manage and support employee relations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Degree in relevant field; And/Or a solid mix of the following: - At least 5 years experience in an Operations Manager position; - At least 3 years experience in Food Retail/ Supermarkets/ or comparable high volume retail companies; - Knowledge of business and management principles and practices; - Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices; - Knowledge of human resource principles and practices; - Knowledge of project management principles and practices; - Knowledge of Information technology.
