The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) cares for adult patients who have come to the Emergency Department (ED) and need to be admitted to Canberra Hospital for management of a medical illness. It’s a short-stay unit, with patients staying in AMU for up to 48 hours before moving to a speciality unit or being discharged to outpatient or community-based services. The unit is designed to deliver timely, evidence-based, and holistic care supported by a strong multi-disciplinary team.
