Our Community Emergency Management team work in a diverse and dynamic environment. Working to support our community by facilitating emergency management planning and coordinating relief and recovery support for those affected. The team also have a long-established relationship in developing innovative projects with response agencies. To help our communities to thrive the emergency management team support community’s to build resilience in order to plan, respond and recover from emergencies.
**About you**
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with the coordination of Council’s emergency management responsibilities through the collaboration with partner agencies, our community and other Council business units. This role is vital in ensuring our community is provided with emergency response resources and support through all phases of emergency events in aim to reduce the impacts they leave on our community.
This role will encompass:
- In collaboration with Council staff and emergency management and community safety organisations, assist with risk based, strategic planning and actions that protect community safety and the environment from bushfire and other emergency incidents
- Assist in the development and ongoing improvement and delivery of Council’s emergency relief and recovery training and exercising program.
- Assist with the management and establishment of the Municipal Emergency Coordination Centre (MECC.
- Provide advice and respond to queries relating to emergency management from Council staff and the community.
**Key Selection Criteria**
**Mandatory Qualifications and Experience**
- Diploma Level qualification in Public Safety (Emergency Management) or relevant field and/or three years of relevant experience in the development and delivery of community emergency management programs.
- Demonstrated experience in Community Emergency Management across all phases on emergency but particularly in planning and risk assessment and/or relief and recovery provision.
- Experience with delivery of training and/or emergency management exercises or scenarios.
- Ability to interpret and implement relevant legislation.
- Well-developed computer skills and in particular Word, Excel and social media.
**Desirable Qualifications and Experience**
- Experience in Local Government.
- Established networks within Emergency Management in the Barwon South West Region.
The successful applicant will also need to meet the below criteria:
- A current WWCC.
