**APS6 Senior HSW Senior Advisor HSW Operations**

The Senior HSW Advisor reporting to the HSW Assistant Director proactively partners with operations stakeholder groups to:

- connect the work of the HSW Hub to the operational environment.
- ensure HSW alignment and implementation of HSW Strategy and Operational HSW needs.

The Senior HSW Advisors are visible safety leaders providing coaching and support to build capability in operational teams to mature their own safety leadership and culture.

**APS6 HSW Governance & Compliance Lead**

The HSW Governance and Compliance Lead reports directly to the HSW Assistant Director Risk, Systems and Governance. They are required to proactively collaborate and partner with internal and external stakeholders to lead and manage change and built professional relationships with the business units.

**Initial Contract**:12-months contract (Non-ongoing)

**Locations**: Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney (Any locations)

**Working Arrangements**: The Senior HSW Advisor & HSW Governance & Compliance Lead may be required to travel interstate and /or to remote locations (this could be for extended periods in line with operational requirements)

**APS6 Senior HSW Senior Advisor HSW Operations**

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Actively build HSW leadership and capability within the business, and embed HSW functions and activities into daily work to promote positive HSW performance
- upskill our people on HSW matters, such as identifying, assessing, and controlling risks (both physical and psychosocial) and building understanding of the importance of incident and hazard reporting
- lead the development and implementation of a site-specific HSW approach that is aligned to the departments’ HSW strategies, HSW risk profile and related assurance activities (some travel required including remote locations)
- promote increased understanding, awareness and use of the department’s HSW ICT systems through training, coaching and support
- act as a key point of contact for people in place location on HSW related matters, providing accurate and useful advice and support aligned to HSW policy and relevant legislative guidelines
- drive the implementation and review of site-specific and/or branch specific risk controls and registers, ensuring that critical risks are documented, and appropriate controls are implemented
- lead HSW audit activities as per developed assurance guidelines and processes
- conduct incident investigations, while providing support and advice to staff in accordance with the departments’ HSW policy and procedure, and relevant HSW legislative guidelines
- advocate for the strategic goals of the broader HSW team, supporting the implementation of new HSW initiatives, programs and systems, contributing to planning and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- provide detailed professional, technical and policy advice in relation to complex problems and assist in strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
- analyse and make recommendations based on feedback from several sources on a regular basis
- work in partnership with stakeholders to build systems and cultures that keep workers safe, healthy and well.
- consult with stakeholders on HSW matters to achieve stated goals and to build strong working relationships with our people based on trust.
- work autonomously, taking personal responsibility for meeting objectives and completing work.
- build strong, positive and professional working relationships remotely, remaining in regular communication with your HSW Manager and foster professional working relationships with the broader HSW team.
- Communicate with confidence and clarity in both written and verbal forms, tailoring communication style and messaging to suit the needs of various audiences.
- Demonstrate self-awareness and a commitment to personal development and training as needed.
- Actively support the HSW Section mission, objectives, and commitments per the HSW charter, and ensure high quality service delivery to the Department
- Undertake ad-hoc tasks and duties at the direction of your HSW Assistant Director.

**Knowledge and experience**
- At least five years’ experience working in a similar HSW role.

**Desirable/Mandatory qualifications**

Mandatory
- Certificate IV in WHS (BSB42012/BSB41415)/OHS (BSB41407/BSB41604) or equivalent relevant to the position.
