CSIRO’s Environment Business Unit (BU) is forming due to the amalgamation of the Oceans and Atmosphere, and Land and Water Business Units. This new BU is dedicated to addressing the challenges and opportunities of the environmental sector now and into the future. The creation of this BU will allow us to tackle more complex multi-disciplinary challenges under a single integrated environment strategy.

As the Executive Officer you will provide high level support in the management and administration of the Environment Business Unit and be responsible for supporting the efficient and effective operations. Your key responsibilities will include the coordination of workflows and planning activities, provision of advice and support on complex issues, coordination of planning activities, undertaking specific projects, conducting analyses and research, and formulating and preparing a range of strategic communications. The EO is a key member of the newly forming Environment Leadership team and will play a crucial role in the transition and change activities supporting the establishment of the new Environment BU.

**Your duties will include**:

- Provide high level support and advice to the Director on issues and interactions with key stakeholders and external parties and provide briefing notes/reports to facilitate effective action
- Coordinate workflows, responses to information requests and reporting requirements
- Prepare and review correspondence, presentations and reports that deal with complex or sensitive matters, identify issues, and develop appropriate responses
- Project manage sensitive or complex BU activities
- Coordinate the preparation of strategic and operational Environment BU plans, compliance with CSIRO processes and governance requirements and other applicable legislative requirements
- Coordinate effective communication within and about BU matters between BU Leadership team members and maintain cross-organisational networks
- Support key relationship management for BU, e.g., government, universities, to support and drive the engagement strategy
- Plan, coordinate and participate in key Business Unit leadership meetings, internal and external reviews, conferences, or other events
- Provide oversight of the Business Unit risk management framework
- Represent the BU in internal and external meetings as required

**Location**: Brisbane, Perth or Darwin preferred. Other cities with a staff presence may be considered
**Salary**: AU$120k - AU$140k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent management/leadership experience in an area relevant to the Business Unit.
- A confident and pro-active approach with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic executive team environment and collaborate widely both internally and externally. An ability to act as a linker and demonstrate flexibility, delegating activities and responding to changing or multiple needs and demands as required.
- Excellent written communication skills, with ability to independently formulate and prepare a wide range of strategic and government communications including complex reports, analyses, plans and briefings.
- Very strong analytical skills with proven ability to investigate underlying issues of complex and ill-defined problems and develop appropriate responses through abstract thinking and using creative solutions.
- Excellent organisational skills with ability to independently manage competing complex demands, establish, or renegotiate priorities, and meet deadlines, including the ability to adapt in ambiguous, urgent and /or complex situations where information is incomplete or not available.
- Extensive experience in successful project management, including planning, engagement, monitoring, and reporting to meet or exceed specified outcomes and timeframes.
- Willingness to travel interstate where appropriate.
