**Who we are**

The Energy Performance and Security Division is part of the Department of Climate Change,
Energy, the Environment and Water. The Division aims to have a positive impact on Australian
households, businesses and communities, and work at the forefront of energy policy, supporting
Australia’s transition to Net Zero and ensuring Australia has access to reliable, affordable and
secure energy.

Energy Security, Crisis Response and GEMS Branch is responsible for a range of energy policy
and assessment functions to understand, manage and where appropriate, respond to the domestic
and international risks that may impact Australia’s energy security or impede climate action. The
branch also leads on the Commonwealth’s response to energy supply emergencies.

The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Program is one of the most effective
measures in Australia to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. The GEMS Product Review
Section reviews existing energy efficiency regulations, considers whether to increase or expand
the scope of these regulations and investigates new products for inclusion in the GEMS Program.

**The Job**

You will be responsible for one or more projects to investigate, develop, review and revise
minimum energy performance standards and other energy efficiency requirements for appliances
and equipment supplied in Australia. You will work with external technical and industry experts and
provide the policy perspective that balances the needs of Australian households and businesses
with what can be achieved through regulation.

**Knowledge and Experience**
Experience in complex policy development and working with external stakeholders would be an
advantage. Other relevant experience is desirable including experience:

- Managing complex projects.
- Working with market data and projections.
- Reviewing legislation.
- Working in a regulatory role.

**Skills and Capabilities**
- Strong research, analysis and policy development skills.
- Ability and willingness to engage with complex issues, and to identify effective solutions and develop advice for non-expert audiences.
- Well-developed writing skills and the ability to deliver briefings and papers on complex issues.
- Good project management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to develop and nurture productive working relationships with external government and
- industry stakeholders.
- Values individual differences and diversity, and flexible ways of working.

**Desirable Qualifications**
A degree in a relevant field such as engineering, science, law, marketing, economics or public
policy.

**Eligibility**
**Citizenship -**To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance -**This position requires a **Baseline Vetting** security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

**Pre-employment Check -** Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
