Head of Audit Department

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join the RBA as the Head of Audit. In this pivotal role, you will inspire, guide, and enable a team of professionals in defining and delivering on the RBA strategy. You will lead and support the development of the Audit team to achieve organisational goals and deliver outcomes, while providing assurance that the Bank’s system of internal control and the risk management framework are effective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Oversee and contribute to the effective performance of the Bank and delivery of the Bank strategy through cross-department collaboration, advice, and support.- Cultural Development: Motivate, foster, and inspire an open and dynamic culture aligned to the Bank’s values, enabling an environment for high levels of staff engagement and performance.- Audit Program Management: Direct a comprehensive program to ensure the Bank’s system of internal control is adequate and effective, and that Audit adopts contemporary audit strategies and methodologies.- Continuous Improvement: Foster an environment that supports ongoing improvements to strategies, systems, and processes, and provide timely, high-quality recommendations to support business decision-making.- Team Leadership: Provide leadership, guidance, and development of employees to achieve team, department, and enterprise outcomes within a strong governance framework.- Independent Audit Advice: Provide independent and objective audit advice regarding governance, risk management and controls.- Communication and Collaboration: Encourage proactive collaboration and effective communication, multilevel feedback, and foster a culture of openness and trust.- Audit Plan Execution: Develop and execute an Audit Plan that addresses the major risks of the Bank (both inherent and residual), ensuring Audit operates in accordance with the IIA’s Global Internal Audit Standards.- Performance Management: Enable and recognise workforce performance in a way that encourages high performance in an open and dynamic way and supports continuous improvement.
Technical Capabilities:
- Sound knowledge of risks and internal controls applicable to large corporates (financial services experience desirable but not required).- Substantial auditing experience with large corporates and/or a large professional services firm delivering these services. This experience might be gained within an organisation or as a partner specialising in the delivery of Governance, Risk and Compliance services at a ‘Big 4’ professional services firm.- Experience representing the organisation at senior levels with other organisations.- Experience evaluating risks, including IT risks, and designing related controls.- Experience developing and leading the execution of Audit Plans that meet the assurance needs of the Audit & Risk Committee.- Understanding of the policy and operational context within which the Bank operates.- Extensive knowledge of current internal auditing techniques, standards, and methodologies.- Considerable experience leading an audit function in a large corporate, including guiding, coaching, and mobilising teams, and influencing peers.
Qualifications:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications- Relevant professional qualifications.- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) accreditation.
