Disability Support Worker

**JOB TITLE** Support Worker (male)

**REPORTS TO **Care Manager

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Purpose of role ** _The Support Worker position with Creative Respite and Community Services_ _will provide flexible and responsive support to adults and children with a disability, mental health, and other care needs. The support worker will promote choice, self determination, and independence._

**Core objectives include**:
Provide assistance to participants in their home, the community and respite setting.

**Main duties and Responsibilities**

Provide direct support and assistance to service participants as required. The support required will vary from person to person but may include and is not limited to:

- _Personal care._
- _Manual handling._
- _Meal preparation._
- _Medication support as required._
- _Mental Health support and awareness._
- _Behaviour support
- working with people who engage in challenging behavior._
- _General household tasks including cleaning._
- _Support participants with community based activities and appointments._
- Complete documentation in a timely, accurate manner.
- Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and punctual.

**SKILLS, COMPETENCY, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**

**Essential**
- A high level of organizational, communication (both oral _
- and written) and problem-solving skills._
- _Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and_
- individually. _ _**Knowledge of, and commitment to the principals of the NDIS.**_
- _Current Drivers license and preparedness to use own comprehensively insured vehicle for work related duties._
- _Current _**First Aid Certificate and CPR**_ _or willingness to obtain prior to commencement._
- Current Working with children **Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening** or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.

**Qualifications**
- Cert III or Cert IV in Disability Work, Aged Care, Mental Health or Community Services._

**Experience**
- _Minimum 12 months experience as a support worker in the_
- Disability, Aged Care or Mental Health sector._
- _**Experience with manual handling and behaviour support desirable.**_

**Knowledge**
- Must have a good understanding of positive behaviour support and person-centred work practices._
- _Good understanding of principles underpinning support work in the disability and mental health sector._
- _General understanding of restrictive practices._
- _General understanding of mental health._

**Other/Special ** **First 6 months of employment is probationary.**
Conditions The position involves shift work which includes weekends, evenings, sleepovers and public holidays.
- Must maintain Working with children Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening.
- Employment is conditional on employee maintaining a current First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Employment is conditional on employee maintaining a current and valid driver’s license.
- Employment in this position is conditional on the employee having the use of a reliable registered motor vehicle, comprehensively insured for work related purposes.
- Where CRCS may have concerns that the employee’s level of fitness is adversely affecting their job performance, the organization may, at its cost, require the employee to submit a fitness capacity evaluation to ensure that neither the employee or a fellow employee or participant are placed at risk of injury.

**Salary**: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
