The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Local Engagement Officer to provide a critical role in the Ballarat region.

**About the business unit**

The Department of Justice and Community Services (DJCS) delivers high quality services to Victorians and supports a safe, just, innovative and thriving Victoria. This includes contracting non-government organisations to provide justice services to the Community.

Justice Services delivers frontline operations across the state of Victoria and engages with local communities to support this delivery. Justice Services provides an interface between the department's central program areas and funded service providers, ensuring that policies and programs are effectively delivered in regional areas. Justice Services also supports the strengthening of local partnerships, working across the justice system to enhance the delivery of high-quality services and outcomes.

**About the role**

The Local Engagement Officer (LEO) is located in the DJCS's regional offices and is the interface between the department (including program areas) and funded service providers. The role is focused on establishing collaborative relationships and connections with funded service providers delivering justice services in the region, monitoring their performance, and leveraging the funding services providers and program areas to contribute to and identify opportunities for place-based services.

The LEO is also responsible for managing a wide range of stakeholders both within the department and externally, to provide specialist support and advice to funded service providers, regional staff, and central program areas to resolve contractual, policy and operational issues. The LEO provides local intelligence and prepares and communicates findings through comprehensive briefs and technical reports. This includes collating and analysing data and maintaining complete, up to date and accurate records. These reports will inform central program areas and regions responsible for overseeing the monitoring and performance of funded service providers.

The successful applicant will be required to facilitate and build effective working relationships with local funded service providers and central program areas, requiring regular travel between rural locations with the occasional overnight stay.

**About you**

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the coordination of complex service delivery models including contract coordination and management.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in modern service delivery principles, involving the development and implementation of local responses to community needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work under mínimal supervision, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated record and data management skills, maintaining up-to-date, complete and accurate records.
- Understands and applies advanced computer skills to complex word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, or database functions.
