Are you keen to influence the way the ACT Government creates, manages and makes available the records of its corporate and collective memory? Do you have a passion for issues of public accountability and community heritage? The Territory Records Office is seeking individuals with a connection to Canberra for nomination as members of the Territory Records Advisory Council.

The Council is established under the _Territory Records Act 2002_ to provide advice to the Director of Territory Records on the development and review of standards and codes for the management of Government records; the disposal of agency records; the preservation of agency records about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage; and issues relating to access to records that are open to public access under the Act.

There are five upcoming vacancies to the Council. Members are appointed by the Special Minister of State, and must be able to represent one of the following areas of interest:

- organisations interested in public administration, governance or public accountability;
- entities interested in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage;
- community associations interested in historical or heritage issues;
- professional organisations interested in records management and archives.

The person appointed to represent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander interests must by of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

In addition, the Territory Records Office is seeking nominees with the capacity to:

- provide strategic advice to the Director, particularly on the matters identified in the Act;
- appreciate the role and significance of government archives for the ACT community; and
- develop an understanding of the importance of recordkeeping to government efficiency and accountability, particularly in a digital environment.
