Reporting to the Communications Manager, Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs, the Communications Advisor is responsible for working as part of a team to deliver key communications materials to support the department's response to mental health reform. The Communications Advisor will be able to demonstrate experience in the design and delivery of communications strategies and tools. You will support your team to brief, develop, test and evaluate communications activities within the mental health portfolio.
The Communications Advisor will support the development and implementation of innovative and comprehensive communications strategies for the Mental Health and Wellbeing Division and the Minister for Mental Health. They will provide administrative support to manage priorities set by the department.
The incumbent will work closely with branch colleagues and relevant business areas within the department to ensure that communication with stakeholders is clear, engaging and timely, and is clearly aligned communications plans and priorities. They will collaborate with teams across the branch to create compelling communications and media products for a range of purposes and audiences, including speeches, media releases, fact sheets, newsletters, materials for online and social media, and communications campaigns.
Accountabilities
- Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of communication strategies and activities including production of print, online and multimedia materials and delivery of departmental events.
- Provide detailed communications advice and work collaboratively across the department to ensure the delivery of effective communications that are of a high written and visual standard and which comply with departmental and whole-of-Victorian Government guidelines.
- As necessary, work with other areas of the department, including the Mental Health and Wellbeing Division and Communications and Media colleagues, to produce high quality outcomes for stakeholders and client.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and work collaboratively to increase the effectiveness of the department's communications.
- Assess and respond to policy and process changes and act as a change agent to support initiatives aligned to the department's corporate direction.
- Provide support to other teams across the branch as and when required, including support for public emergencies, large-scale communications campaigns and other high priority projects, to contribute the effective management of work across the branch and department.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
