Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of Immigration of the International Student and Scholar Services, the Assistant Director, Faculty & Scholar Support will be responsible as the main contact person for the departmental contact for employment-based petitions. Monitor and maintain knowledge of the immigration landscape, interpret federal legislations and regulations, provide leadership and consultations to university faculty and staff on immigration matters.

- Act as in a leadership role and be the main contact person for the departmental contact for employment based petitions. Monitor and maintain knowledge of the immigration landscape, interpret federal legislations and regulations, provide leadership and consultations to university faculty and staff on immigration matters. Draft immigration related communication to the Penn community.
- Process employment based petitions (H-1B, E-3, LPR, etc) including filing, following up, tracking, and responding to time-sensitive audits and requests for (additional) evidence, act as the main contact person for the university accounts.
- Advise international students, scholars, faculty, and staff and Penn community regarding federal immigration and employment regulations, Penn resources, and personal/cultural matters.
- Ensure the government agency reporting requirement such as health insurance, verification component, or any relevant position update for visiting scholars, employee or faculty are done properly.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience dealing with immigration regulations, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Considerable knowledge of university policies and procedures is preferred. Three or more years’ direct experience working in an area of employment-based immigration petitions processing in a large international office is preferred.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience working with SEVIS and immigration regulations pertaining to various immigration classifications. Excellent intercultural communication and leadership skills required. Must understand ever-changing federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to foreign nationals and effectively communicate to others.
Ability to work efficiently with students, faculty, university administrators, and government officials. Excellent customer service skills, and interpersonal skills and solid written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills required. Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are a must and the flexibility to multitask, meet urgent deadlines, occasionally work outside of normal business hours, carry an office emergency phone on a rotational basis. Must meet urgent deadlines, and adapt to changing demands and priorities. Ability to demonstrate the leadership accountability as well as contribute and collaborate effectively as a team member. U.S. federal regulations require an ARO and DSO to be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
