**The Role**
- Develop, review, and implement procedures and practices consistent with relevant legislation, regulations and Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) business objectives, CASG Safety Management System (CASsafe) and CASG Environmental Management System (CASEnv).
- Developing, implementing and monitoring the SATCOM SPO Contractor Verification Program and associated schedule.
- Providing work health and safety advice and legislation interpretation for SATCOM SPO personnel.
- Collation, analysis and reporting of safety performance data including non-ionising radiation and Hazardous Chemicals registers.
- Build productive working relationships with stakeholders to influence decisions and ensure alignment with broader Defence objectives.
- Represent SATCOM SPO at work health and safety network internal and external forums.
- Assess and evaluate work health and safety strategy, initiatives, projects, policy and procedures.
- Identifying and resolving safety issues, including Work Health and Safety Hazard and Incident management.

**About our Team**
Space Systems Branch acquires and sustains satellite communication systems, and is a trusted advisor for the Australian Defence Organisation. The team comprises professionals from various disciplines including project management, engineering, commercial, and logistics. This multi-disciplinary team is composed of highly skilled and motivated Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and contracted personnel. SATCOM Systems Program Office (SPO) operates in a high-tempo, dynamic environment and are looking for an experienced and high performing Work Health and Safety Advisor to help achieve our objectives. The team works from Brindabella Park offices in Canberra and maintains close collaboration with other functions of Defence and other Government Agencies.
- Have demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of strategies for managing environmental and WHS matters.
- Exercise a considerable degree of independence, sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice.
- Have in-depth knowledge of work health and safety policy and procedures and are responsible for the compliance and review of work health and safety risks to capability.
- Engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.
- Be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
- Be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.
