Disability Support Worker

**Who Are We?**

We are family, friends and paid supports who work together to improve the quality of life of an engaging young man impacted by disability, with a focus on him living more like other guys his age. We call ourselves Mitchell’s Crew

Mitchell is in his early 30s and has autism with intellectual impairment and epilepsy. He is learning to communicate more effectively with pictogram sheets and an app on his iPad. Mitchell is mobile, but at times is a bit wobbly or uncoordinated. While he loves books, libraries and Disney Plus; Mitchell’s big passion is sailing

**Who Are You?**

We are looking for someone with a passion for helping others live their best life.

You will:

- Have some experience helping people with similar needs, either through work or personal experience.
- Have a reliable car you can use to take Mitchell out and about - we'll pay travel allowance of course
- Have a good ear and a quick eye to pick up on Mitchell's odd way of telling you things.
- Be able to navigate an iPad and pick up how to use Microsoft 365 and Google collaboration tools.
- Have the verbal and written communications skills to ably do shift handovers and maintain shift notes.

**What You'll Do**

This role will help with all aspects of Mitchell's daily living and access to the community.

You will:

- Help him with personal care - showering, dressing, toileting.
- Provide domestic support - preparing meals and eating, shopping and household chores
- Maintain the paperwork that goes with helping Mitchell - shift notes, behaviour records, medication sheets, receipts.
- Help Mitchell get out and about in the community - including therapy, recreational and health sessions.
- Work are part of a team to build Mitchell's capacity to live well and communicate his needs and wants.

We are currently looking for someone to fill day and sleepover shifts on a Monday, Friday, and the weekend.
- Day shifts - typically from 9 am to 5 pm
- Overnight Shifts - typically from 5 pm to 9 am the next morning, with a sleepover allowance paid between 10 am and 6 am.

The shifts can vary, especially when Mitchell's parents are not around, so flexibility is appreciated.
