This leadership role as Head of Boarding will be critical in ensuring that the Australian Ballet School boarders experience a 'home away from home' at the school's purpose-built boarding facility Marilyn Rowe House in Parkville.
Fostering a spirit and character that is friendly and supportive, this significant role will lead a team responsible for the health and well-being of a small (32) student cohort. You will create a strong sense of belonging for each student ensuring that each individual is provided with a place to call home with space to recharge as they navigate their student journey training at the highest, most elite, most scrutinised level, to become the dance professionals of the future.
With the assistance of a Boarding House Manager and a team of 5 Boarding Assistants you will manage the day-to-day operation of this facility with key responsibilities will include the following:
- **Team leadership** - coach, guide, develop and support this small and committed team of care professionals
- **Boarding Students** - Provide leadership and pastoral care, ensuring a safe and secure environment. Help to nurture, develop students through their ABS journey.
- **Community of Care** - Manage relationships with boarding families and support student's physical and mental wellbeing.
- **Marilyn Rowe House** - manage facilities, resources (supplies/services/rostering/maintenance), to ensure a safe and secure home away from home.
Ideally you will bring similar facility management and leadership experience, compliant with child safe standards. While school boarding facility management is an advantage, any broader management experience gained from working with young people in residential, and/or supported care will also be considered. The nature of this residence means taking ultimate responsibility for its function 24/7 and as such, this role will also be part of a rotating roster which will include a minimum of two overnight stays per week and some weekend commitment.
This is a full-time 38 hour per week role. Your time will be divided between a significant on-site presence with offsite time carved out to attend to broader facilities management responsibilities. It is important to note that this role does not have any teaching responsibilities.
Empathy and alignment with foundation behaviours of respect, ethical behaviour, compassion and inclusivity are paramount to create a safe, stable 'home' environment that will support the physical health and mental wellbeing of these young developing people. Excellent communication and problem solving skills, your ability to manage any escalated issues adeptly and calmly with wisdom and sound judgement will be critical. PC literacy and your ability to navigate your way around multiple technology systems is preferred.
