As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

As the Emergency Management Coordinator, you are responsible for coordinating the commitment and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the resilience of local communities and agencies in the Region, through adopting a consistent risk management approach in the provision of quality disaster management training, expert advice, capability building, response and support to the Queensland Disaster Management framework and stakeholders in all emergency phases - Prevention, Preparedness Response and Recovery (PPRR).

Key requirements

Mandatory requirements
- Minumum C Class Driver's Licence (non-restricted)
- Capacity to work weekends to suit operational requirements

Highly desirable requirements
- Demonstrated ability to deliver operational outcomes in cooperation with partner agencies in a dynamic disaster management or similar environment.
- Qualifications in management or an emergency services related field.
- Current Certificate IV in training and Assessment or equivalent.
- Experience working in an inter-agency/multi-agency/volunteer organisation.

Special requirements
- The hours of duty applicable to this role are pursuant to the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award - State 2015, Schedule 1 - Section 4: specifically, the spread of ordinary hours for this role are 0600 to 2200, Monday to Sunday (S1.4.1.2).

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in providing key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Support the development and implementation of QFES operational service delivery plan and organisational reporting requirements.
- Incorporate risk management principles and practices in the delivery of emergency management planning, review and assessments; the development and maintenance of disaster management plans; delivery of Queensland Disaster Management Training Framework and other emergency management training to relevant stakeholders.
- Represent QFES as a member or advisor of disaster management groups and contribute to whole of government response coordination functions, including the provision of advice on emergency management planning arrangements and operational response activities.
- Engage with senior staff from local government, other government agencies, authorities, diverse communities and community groups to build local capability and capacity across PPRR from events and disasters.
- Support the development of state based initiatives to develop, deliver and implement emergency management outcomes.
- Support the delivery of community education and awareness programs in accordance with agreed community education strategic plans.
- Engage and facilitate post event analysis, debriefs and lessons learned for the region, including the ongoing development of continuous improvement strategies; maintaining knowledge of current legislation and guidelines; and resolving gaps in operational capacity and/or capability.
- Undertake and support operational duties in an out of hours, on-call roster during emergencies and disasters, as necessary, which may involve intra and interstate deployments, including travel to rural and remote communities, at short notice and out of business hours.
