**The Role**:
This is a part-time, ongoing position, 28.5 hours per fortnight, within the Paediatric Infant Perinatal Emergency Retrieval (PIPER) Department.

The PIPER Patient Transport Officer plays a vital role in ensuring that the Non-Emergency teams and patients can quickly and safely be transferred between hospitals.

The PIPER Patient Transport Officer has responsibility for safely transporting the teams and newborn patients in purpose-built vehicles. In addition, it is expected that they will assist the teams in carrying out their tasks and maintain the vehicles to appropriate standards. They may also be required to assist with emergency transports if required.

**To be successful in this role, you will**:

- Rapidly respond to request for retrievals;
- Good knowledge base of Melbourne metro and regional hospitals, and best ways to navigate to these locations;
- Safely transport the PIPER transport teams, newborn patients and/or equipment between RCH, referring and receiving Hospitals and other locations as directed;
- Report and liaise with service provider for vehicles in relation to mainenance and servicing of PIPER vehicles, e-tag and registration issues;
- Facilitate rotation of PIPER vehicles;
- Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of PIPER vehicles;
- Restock PIPER vehicles, including but not limited to exchange of air and oxygen cylinders; and
- Ensure daily checks of the vehicles are completed and vehicle is in safe working order.

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Certificate Level 3 in Health (Non-Emergency Transport) or equivalent qualification/higher qualification;
- Hold a current, full and unrestricted Victoria Drivers Licence;
- Be able to walk freely, bend, kneel and lift weights consistent with patient incubator movement and handling requirements.
