Exiting Junior Data Analyst opportunity within a Federal Government Department

**Your new company**
Hays is working with its client, A Federal Government Department. You will be working as a Data Analyst within the Department to support the project goals.

**Your new role**
The main duties of the Data Analyst include, but are not limited to:

- Under guidance, working with complex datasets and understanding their limitations for the respective task at hand
- Assisting with the preparation of reports and other data summaries using R and SQL
- Assisting with the implementation of new data policies and processes
- Supporting the evaluation and implementation of risk-based intervention approaches
- Undertaking reporting activities using existing analytical tools and templates
- Assisting the branch to monitor and respond to a range of import enquiries
- Engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have,
- A high level of attention to detail when working with data to routinely evaluate the intent and accuracy of script outputs.
- Ability to problem solve and identify data anomalies in summaries and reports.
- The ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, and listen to, understand and adapt your communication style to suit the audience.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment whilst building and sustaining collaborative relationships.
- The ability to resolve routine tasks and determine when to seek advice on more complex problems.
- Demonstrated sound judgment when interpreting trends or patterns from complex datasets.

**What you'll need to succeed**
To be considered, you will need:

- Practical experience using R and/or SQL.
- Document preparation skills using Latex.
- Experience using Power BI for data visualisation would be valuable.
- Experience working in a biosecurity area and an understanding of the operational context in which plant biosecurity operates would be an advantage.
