Public Sector People are currently recruiting a Waste Projects Officer for a regional council, and in commuting distance from Melbourne.

The Waste Projects Support Officer will assist with the delivery of operational and strategic activities including actions within Council’s Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030, transition to a new waste collection contract and education activities.

We are seeking a Band 5 officer, ideally with previous local government experience. This is a four month contract initially. Based North West of CBD, travel time is 1hour 30 minutes from the City by car or accessible by V/Line which takes just over 1 hour from Southern Cross.

**Key Responsibilities and Duties**
- Preparation of an integrated Waste and Resource Recovery / Litter and Illegal Dumping Action Plan for the Shire. This plan will build upon previously completed work and collate resources developed by Sustainability Victoria and other agencies.
- Development of a waste education communications plan to engage the community about waste and environment initiatives in the local council and broader context
- Develop waste reduction and recycling guidelines for use by event organisers
- Investigate a rebate program for home-based waste-reduction initiatives (worm farms, compost bins, reusable nappies)

**Selection Criteria**
- Degree or Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field with some relevant experience or less formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of sustainable waste management, resource recovery, waste management principles and practices including State Government, Recycling Victoria policy.
- Experience within a busy office environment with differing and changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate verbally with internal and external stakeholders, build productive working relationships and deliver timely high quality customer service.
