About the role

The Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a pivotal role within Macquarie University’s Health IT team, providing your technical expertise to shape digital transformation initiatives and the future of healthcare delivery.

As a Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) your primary scope is to provide in-depth technical expertise into healthcare IT systems - think EMR, EHR, integration platforms and underlying technologies, solving complex challenges and driving digital transformation for one of Australia’s leading academic institutions. The Technical SME will also play a key role in the delivery of Health IT projects through all its phases including contributions to solution design, implementation, testing and deployment.

Key responsibilities:
- Technical Expertise and Consultation - Be the go-to expert on specific IT health systems and technologies guiding teams and stakeholders with your technical insights and know-how.- Design and Deliver - Collaborate with IT architects and project managers to design and deliver technical solutions that align with our bold 2025-2029 Digital Health Vision including the development and maintenance of technical documentation, system configurations, data mappings, and troubleshooting guides.- Solve Problems - Tackle intricate technical issues with sharp analytical skills and creative troubleshooting.- Share Knowledge - Share knowledge, document processes and foster a culture of learning amongst team members and broader stakeholders.- Innovate - Spot opportunities to elevate our IT systems, processes and technologies, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare technology that supports the hospital's digital transformation goals.

This role is based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde.

About You

You will be a self-starting individual with excellent work organisation, time management skills and ability to work under pressure. You will have robust analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail and be able to effectively communicate with clients and stakeholders at all levels.

Selection Criteria- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a technical role within the healthcare IT industry.- Deep expertise in one or more specific IT healthcare technologies or domains (e.g., EHRs, integration platforms, data analytics, cybersecurity).- A problem-solver with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.- Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the hospital's IT environment.- Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations.

Desirable criteria- Experience in a public or private hospital settings.
