**The Role**
As an Environment & Sustainability Officer, you will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure environmental and sustainability services are delivered efficiently across the East West Zone whilst delivering improved environmental performance on our Defence Bases and in our office environments.

You will support the design and enabling appropriate management strategies through recommendations that enhance our environmental management, improved efficiencies and integration with other Defence priorities and operations.

You will be physically located at Defence Plaza Sydney, however this role will give you opportunities to visit numerous Defence properties and Training Areas within NSW.

**About our Team**
The East West Zone of the Service Delivery Division provides a wide variety of products and services to Defence in NSW and WA. The NSW Environment & Sustainability team provide professional environmental advice in support of the Defence Environmental Strategy 2016-2036. Services provided by the Environment & Sustainability team include:

- Providing environmental, heritage, contamination and pollution advice to Defence and external stakeholders;
- Providing technical advice on land and water biodiversity management (fire, feral animal management, weed assessment, water quality monitoring) and ecological sustainable development;
- Managing the receipt and resolution of environmental incident reporting; and
- Assisting sponsors with, and approving Environmental Clearance Certificates (ECCs).

- Understand and implement Defence’s environmental legislative obligations to ensure compliance with Defence’s environmental management responsibilities.
- Have genuine interest in providing the customer with a positive and professional experience when faced with environment and sustainability matters impacting the estate.
- Analyse, prioritise and initiate improvements to business practices to further Defence’s environmental performance in support of Defence capabilities.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment in order to assist on the delivery Defence objectives.
- Be willing to learn and be challenged, demonstrate resilience and personal drive in support of Defence capability while enhancing Defence environmental outcomes.
- Undertake Stakeholder engagement and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and deliver services to achieve outcomes.

You will be responsible for contributing to the effectiveness of the Zone environment management system through providing an important support role to Environment and Sustainability Managers in performing their roles.

You will be working with your team to enhance the customer experience. You will be agile and curious in your thinking, proactive in engaging with your peer network and stakeholders as well as actively identifying opportunities to implement improvements to environment business systems to meet current needs whilst looking to the future.
