About the Business Unit
Dispute Services is a multi-dispute agency within the Department of Justice and Community Safety which includes the Dispute Settlement Centre Victoria (DSCV), and Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDV). Dispute Services provides for the more timely, fair, and less costly resolution of disputes while it empowers and assists the Victorian community to prevent and appropriately resolve issues, alleviate pressure on the judicial system and help the community to thrive

About the Role
Working as an integral part of a Dispute Assessment team and reporting to the Senior Manager - DSCV, the Dispute Assessment Officers will manage disputes from initial assessment onwards, and will, if required, also conduct in-person mediation with both parties. Based on theoretical knowledge and practical experience, assess and analyse disputes and diagnose dispute resolution requirements.
Some of your duties may include
- Undertake the assessment and analysis of the dispute and diagnose dispute resolution requirements.
- Provide advice to parties on options available and make recommendations using the assisted settlement processes to provide fast resolution including independently providing parties with appropriate third-party referrals as needed.
- Encourage parties to explore potential solutions and find mutually acceptable outcomes, using a facilitative approach to resolution and ensure issues are clarified.

About You
- A working knowledge of relevant legislation and Acts
- National Mediator Accreditation and conciliation experience is desirable
- Experience in dispute resolution techniques, including in the assessment of disputes, case management, and facilitative settlement
- Ability to build strong relationships and develop an understanding of others in order to motivate them and confidently address conflict situations

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- National Mediator Accreditation and conciliation experience is desirable.
- Experience resolving disputes is highly desirable
