**PR and External Communications Specialist (Maternity Cover) - Pacific**
- **12 month contract**

- The PR & Communications Specialist is responsible for the overall content strategy for the Pacific market, encompassing PR and media relations, crisis communications, client communications, social media, employee social advocacy, and reputation.
- The role requires effective stakeholder management in order to advise senior leaders on communications issues, ensure communications strategies are supported by the business, and deliver on our brand reputation and commercial objectives.
- This is a 12-month contract opportunity.

**We will count on you to**:

- Lead the overall corporate communications strategy, encompassing PR and media relations and crisis communications.
- Act as the first point of contact for inbound media and external enquiries
- Lead on crisis and issues management, protecting Mercer’s reputation and minimising negative impact; preparing media statements, talking points, and developing strategies with external PR agencies
- Work with the B2B Marketing Leader to define key messages to support Mercer’s external communications and identify the channels and spokespeople
- Use our external communications strategy to maximise opportunities for Mercer in overall brand and reputation, client and prospect engagement and revenue where applicable, supporting the local and global marketing objectives
- Advise senior leaders on communications best practice, ensuring we manage Mercer and our leaders’ reputations, practicing discretion and good judgment in approaching complex communications issues
- Manage executive presence through external channels, including media, thought leadership, speaking engagements.
- Contribute to the global PR & communications team, representing Pacific and ensuring two-way flow of activity and content, using discretion to appropriately select initiatives for inclusion in Pacific strategy
- Ensure all relevant stakeholders are aware of content being developed, correct approval processes are followed (including legal and compliance where required) and internal approvals are complete prior to external publishing

**What you need to have**:

- Ideally 5+ years of experience as an external communications leader preferably within a B2B or consulting business. Financial services experience will be a strong advantage.
- Strong Media, PR, crisis communications and communications strategy experience
- Ability to provide a point of view to leadership and counsel to Pacific Leadership Team
- Discipline and ability to work autonomously to drive the right business outcomes in a timely manner
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact in a team environment with all levels of employees including senior management
- Proven ability to influence and serve as a strategic thinker to senior leadership.
