THE ROLE

Macquarie University is expanding its approach to managing research grant awards and the newly established Research Awards Coordinator role will help guide and shape the processes and principles for research grants awards management.

The Research Awards Coordinator will provide institutional oversight to all aspects of project establishment and post award grants administration, including the review and revision of new and existing processes. The position will also interpret and provide guidance on funding rules and regulations, manage the review, execution and administration of sponsored grants-related research contracts and develop, implement and maintain efficient and effective post award processes and procedures.

Key Accountabilities- Provide high level interpretation, advice and guidance on funding rules and regulations relating to grant award and contract activity.- Provide a consistent point of contact regarding awards and contracts for the relevant Faculty research community.- Oversee all aspects of post-award grants administration including, but not limited to:
- o In consultation with the Research Contracts Specialists, prepare and administer standard template agreements for research funding awards, including liaising with external stakeholders to secure timely execution of contracts.- o Monitor contract performance to ensure compliance and fulfilment of the award conditions and funding requirements and to determine trends.- o Coordinate, review and submit progress, financial, milestones, and final reports.- o Provide support to researchers with requests for project variations and transfers.- o Update and maintenance of research information systems to record and interrogate data.- o Monitor the grant approvals process to ensure all requirements, including ethics approvals, have been met and cost centres allocated.- o Interface with the researcher, divisional and functional unit staff, funding agency and other organisations as required.- Work collaboratively with the Research Awards Team Leader to contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of efficient and effective research grant management processes and procedures to ensure timely and detail-oriented processing of post award grant administration and other tasks.- Coordinate the effective provision of sound advice, analysis, reports, and recommendations in relation to grants and contracts management to the Research Awards Team Leader and other stakeholders.- Participate in internal and/or external audits of grants/contracts by providing information and documentation as requested and take appropriate action following audit reviews.- Develop effective communication and working relationships with relevant staff at all levels of the organisation. This includes fostering working relationships with academic and professional staff across the University.- Develop and maintain effective communication, relationships, and networks at an operational level with external organisations, particularly research funding organisations and collaborating organisations/partners.- Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations- Perform any other duties as required and appropriate for this classification
