The role Reporting to the Director, Legislation Unit, you will serve as a pivotal figure in the Legislation Unit, overseeing and managing its administrative functions to fulfill the statutory obligations of the Chief Psychiatrist concerning individual consumer matters. Your expertise will be vital in providing authoritative advice on the Mental Health Act 2016 and other relevant legislation, ensuring the protection of consumers' rights and interests. Negotiating complex and sensitive issues related to statutory processes, consulting with services, statutory bodies, and government agencies, will be among your key responsibilities.
Additionally, you will exercise delegated administrative powers, coordinate responses to complaints, and contribute significantly to the development of systems, processes, and policies aligned with the Mental Health Act 2016. Your role also entails actively participating in legislative reviews and amendments, emphasizing the rights of individuals with mental health challenges.
The successful personTo excel in this role, you must possess in-depth expertise concerning the Mental Health Act 2016 and legislation impacting individuals with disabilities, coupled with a profound understanding of safeguards safeguarding the rights of mental health service consumers. Your capabilities should extend to advanced analysis, development, implementation, and assessment of both legislative and mental health policies.
Furthermore, your role demands strong leadership abilities to initiate enhancements in administrative procedures, adeptly manage personnel and resources, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services within specified times. Additionally, your exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills, including the capacity to engage in consultations, negotiations, and efficient stakeholder relationship management, will be crucial for success in this position.

The Division is also accountable for setting and supporting the direction for mental health, alcohol and other drug services in Queensland, as well monitoring and reporting on performance.
