The role The Mental Health Commissioner (the Commissioner) performs the role of chief executive of the Commission and is responsible for leading the Commission, consisting of approximately 21 staff, and acts independently, impartially and in the public interest. The role is a statutory position under the Queensland Mental Health Commission Act 2013 (the Act). Appointment is by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services.
You will be responsible for a range of legislative and corporate functions, including:
- Developing a whole-of-government strategic plan in consultation with consumers, families, carers, government and non-government stakeholders and facilitate, support and report on the implementation of the plan
- Building the evidence base to identify best practice and support innovation
- Raising awareness and promotion of client focused delivery of services
- Financial accountability, legal and statutory compliance
- Cultivating positive partnerships to achieve shared goals
The role will be remunerated in accordance with Queensland Government guidelines.
The successful personYou will have extensive experience across the public, private and/or not-for-profit sector and a strong background in strategy, policy implementation, service delivery and client service.
As a strategic leader with a passion for driving a vision responsive to government priorities, community needs and changing expectations, your outstanding leadership ability and success as an agent of largescale change in challenging environments will be demonstrated by your record in building trust, cultivating positive partnerships and bringing together organisations and individuals to collaborate and achieve shared goals.
You will have in-depth knowledge and understanding of national and international systems, policies and best practice interventions with regards to mental health, suicide prevention and alcohol and other drugs.
As a leader you will have developed high performing teams and will have fostered exceptional relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. You will be experienced in providing advice to Ministerial and Senior Executive levels and will have had direct dealings with media, particularly with adverse reactions.
