Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, compliance, regulatory, market and reputational risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Risk professional to lead Wholesale Credit Risk Management function for HBAU covering all forms of Credit Risk across Global Banking (GB), Commercial Banking (CMB) and Markets and Security Services (MSS). To maintain & improve risk profile of the Bank by establishing credit risk appetite guidelines, risk underwriting & governance, portfolio overview & management. Manage & monitor non-performing advances, impairment provisions & recoveries providing management reporting to local board / regional / country committees/ risk management meeting (RMM). To maintain relationships with regulators / rating agencies.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Lead and manage a team of 14 to manage all elements of the Bank’s Wholesale book which includes distressed Loan Management activities
- Setting Risk appetite and Lending Guidelines that match Group/Regional Standards with Risk Strategy & Appetite that reflect local Markets
- Credit Underwriting - lead a team of approvers ensuring a well-balanced risk reward / shareholder value alignment to local risk appetite.
- Identifying emerging risks through portfolio management strategies & initiate mitigation strategies in line with Risk Appetite.
- Delivering appropriate MI to CRO and Risk Committees. Working closely with regional and country WCRM teams across HBAP.
- Ensuring that risk segments are investigated to identify areas for profitable expansion or tightening.
- Maintaining non-performing advances (NPAs) and impairment provisions within acceptable norms
- Adopting of Group/Regional guidance, Basel 3, IFRS9 etc.
- Managing relationship with regulators, auditors, rating agencies, industry bodies as relevant (i.e APRA, Australian Bankers Association, Risk Management Association).
- Encouraging efficient and streamlined credit processes, including providing guidance & contribution to risk rating frameworks / scorecards built in conjunction with GMO /centre of excellence.
Requirements
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience with respect to Wholesale Credit Lending and or Approvals in a mature market
- Ability to think holistically with respect to market dynamics and risk events.
- Strong knowledge of Wholesale businesses and related Risk Management, particularly in relation to developments of the management discipline and regulatory impacts in this area relative to the Australian market
- Strong understanding of other areas of risk, e.g. Market, Liquidity and Treasury Risk, Operational, Compliance, Legal etc.
- Has developed a high level of professional competence which helps to determine solutions around appropriate risk measures, risk processes, risk monitoring and management
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business
- Sound leadership and management ability including developing and retaining critical talent and building an effective leadership team.
- Ability to manage effectively senior stakeholders across all businesses and functions relative to Wholesale Credit Risk.
