Brisbane, Australia Queensland Government Full time

This is a temporary full-time position to start 22 April to 27 June 2025, with possibile extension. About the School Queensland Education and Training Centre (QETC) is a Department of Education school operating within Brisbane's Youth Detention Centres at Wacol. QETC is a multi-campus school that caters to male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. The QETC campuses are: Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre, West Moreton Education and Training Centre, Vocational Training Queensland, Caboolture Watchhouse Education Support Hub. Vocational Training Queensland (VTQ) VTQ is a registered training organisation (RTO) and was established by the Department of Education to provide access to flexible learning operations for at-risk youth under a not-for-profit model. The central idea was developing capacity in communities across Queensland to be able to 'do school differently' for a complex-needs cohort. Many young people disengage from education for a variety of reasons, including complex life circumstances and difficulties in learning within existing education models. We provide education services to those who have the most difficulty in accessing the education they need to increase their options in life. We have the expertise to deliver services to young people with a range of support needs who have disengaged from education for a variety of complex reasons. We work with partnerships so that young people can access education with support from people in their home communities. To maintain the engagement of students across the year and address learning gaps, funding has been approved for education delivery over 48 weeks of the year. This aligns Queensland with youth detention schools in other states and territories across Australia. The employment entitlements for staff will not change, however it does provide opportunities for flexible work agreements. Through negotiation with the Executive Principal, the successful applicant will determine whether a regular or alternative school holiday model is accessed. About the Role As the Deputy Principal your responsibilities and key capabilities will include, but are not limited, to the following: Oversee the strategic development and operational management of VTQ with a strong focus on providing equitable access to meaningful education services for young people in communities across Queensland, through a range of flexible partnerships. Oversee the operational synergies from coordinating educational timetabling and workforce scheduling. Deliver a strategic portfolio as an integral part of our QETC's leadership team. Play an overall integral role in championing close partnerships with key inter-agency stakeholders and community organisations to continue strengthening our educational practices. Possess strong Vocational Education and Training knowledge, well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work strategically as an instructional leader. Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position. Interested? To Apply Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history). Attach a written response (2-page maximum) to the "How you will be assessed" section of the attached role description. We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive. Applications remain current for 12 months from closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.
