The Technical Lead Urban Water works within the Bureau's Water Section. This Section is dedicated to increasing the value and impact the Bureau delivers to Australia's Water Sector and our partner agencies. Our core customers include the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, and other government agencies, water authorities and water users.

The Technical Lead Urban Water coordinates the development, delivery and continual improvement of the Urban National Performance Report; this provides an annual, independent benchmark of pricing and service quality of Australian urban water utilities.

The Bureau is responsible for delivering the Urban National Performance Report and has recently coordinated a review of this product. The review proposed the following improvements:

- Expansion of the organisations reporting within the Urban NPR framework, to include water providers supplying fewer than 10,000 connections.
- Consolidation and improvement of the indicators reported.
- Streamlining the reporting process, through improvements in guidelines and standards.
