- Melbourne CBD - VIC
**The Role**
The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) is offering multiple opportunities within the Directorate of Initial Airworthiness (DIA).
Role 1 - Initial Airworthiness Regulation and Promotion: your team focus is supporting the Defence aviation community to understand policy related to aircraft design, production, and certification. This includes:
- Maturing the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR).
- Responding to policy and DASR queries from key stakeholders, and proposing policy options.
- Delivering training material, and developing educational resources and guidance documents.
Role 2 - Type Certificate Oversight and Enforcement: your team focus is to deliver risk-based assurance of Military Type Certificate holders. This includes:
- Assessment and oversight of ADF and their supporting organisations that provide continued airworthiness services for Defence aircraft.
- Analyse and communicate risks to aviation safety internally and to stakeholders within the Defence aviation community.
- Travel across Australia to manage relationships and conduct assurance.
**About our Team**
The DASA vision ‘Capability First, Safety Always’ reflects our mission in supporting Defence aviation capability, while providing assurance that safety risks are effectively managed. DIA contributes to this by:
- Promulgating initial airworthiness policy and regulation.
- Certifying Defence aviation systems.
- Overseeing design and production organisations.
You will be able to influence how aviation safety is managed into the future for Defence, and play a part in current aviation capability.
We offer a diverse range of work to develop your career in aviation safety and beyond. Shifting priorities require a high degree of flexibility and open up opportunities to work across DASA teams, allowing you to shape your career progression. Working in the APS is both challenging and rewarding. You can make significant contributions to Australia, whilst supported by flexible employment conditions.
DASA is looking for motivated engineers and technical professionals who are passionate about aviation and the safety of Defence flight operations.
Experience in design, production or management of safety critical systems within the aviation industry would be ideal. Practical experience in evaluation of safety risks, or exposure to aviation safety is highly desirable.
Role 2 - You will draw on your broad experience to assess organisational performance and identify safety risks. You are methodical in conducting oversight activities, and have a high attention to detail. You possess professionalism and a confident nature when providing high quality advice to senior engineering managers and key stakeholders.
