- Responsibilities
- Within assigned authority, the Associate Programme Officer will be responsible for the following specific tasks: - Contribute to the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of the UNODC GMCP support activities to enhance maritime law enforcement capabilities for interdictions and investigations in the wider Indian Ocean dealing with maritime crime matters; including assessments, course development, infrastructural and equipment support, workshops, training and mentoring, and logístical matters associated with project implementation. - Provide assistance in managing the Maritime Law Enforcement Regional Trainings in Seychelles. - Assist in coordinating all Maritime Law Enforcement activities of the Indian Ocean Forum for Maritime Crime sub-groups, by arranging regular coordination events to ensure collaboration on maritime interdiction operations particularly in Seychelles and Mauritius. - Support assessment and review of existing maritime law enforcement capabilities to counter all forms of maritime crime, including maritime terrorism, to better inform the delivery of targeted interventions. - Assist in engaging with and building networks of national and regional counterparts as well as international partners working within the maritime domain in the wider Indian Ocean region. - Participate in and provide assistance in organizing and coordinating workshops on maritime security matters. - Draft a variety of written progress reports, mission reports, briefings/presentations, policy proposals and documents, summary reports etc. - Provide support to the GMCP programme coordinator in view of consultative and other meetings, workshops, conferences, etc., including proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparing background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc. - Assist the GMCP programme coordinator with administrative processes related to the procurement of equipment and services in line with UN financial rules and regulations. - Support field missions to locations in the region where GMCP carries out programme activities, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc. - Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. - Perform any other duties as required/assigned.

- An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, political science, business administration, project management or related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
