Immediate start for a Sustainability Officer working with a Council in Melbourne.

**Your new role**
The role will collaborate and innovate to develop and implement highly impactful sustainability and climate change projects and policies. The role will educate and engage the community to complement Council’s efforts and raise awareness of key environmental issues and opportunities. You’ll:

- Provide technical and strategic advice to other departments to ensure projects and services deliver on Council’s strong sustainability agenda by addressing climate change impacts, adaptation measures, integrated water management and other complex environmental matters
- Drive efficient delivery of sustainable environmental management strategies, plans, polices and strategic responses and develop new approaches to achieve Council and community environmental objectives and targets
- Lead and/or assist in the pragmatic development, implementation and evaluation of inspiring environmental education/awareness activities and programs including both external and internal
- Use analytical and problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to develop and negotiate innovative, sensitive and practical solutions to assist Council to prepare for climate change and enhanced environmental outcomes
- Lead development, implementation and review of council’s sustainability and climate change projects and policies with support from the Team Leader and Coordinator

**What you'll need to succeed**
The position requires extensive project delivery expertise as well as the ability to think strategically, form strong networks, communicate complex information clearly, influence others and drive innovation. As well as having tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental planning, environmental management, or related discipline, you’ll have:

- Experience in the delivery and design of environmental programs
- Good understanding of sustainability behavioural change strategies and techniques
