The Role
We are seeking a consultant who can demonstrate some planning/environmental working experience to join our Environment & Planning Team in Melbourne; to further drive and expand on the team's recent successes with major infrastructure, government, energy and transport projects.
The Urban Planning team has a diverse offering of both strategic and statutory planning activities, and you'll have the opportunity to work alongside our Engineering, Precincts, Integrated Design and Digital teams, supporting in the delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure and precinct scale developments.
Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’.
- Provide urban planning advisory and consulting services to public and private clients.
- Support in the delivery of multidisciplinary medium to large scale infrastructure projects, in particular identification of relevant planning and environmental opportunities and constraints through the master planning, concept, due diligence, and feasibility stages.
- Collaboratively work with other parts of Aurecon as necessary to leverage Aurecon’s technical ability to deliver planning advisory work.
- Navigate through complex technical and legislative requirements, frameworks, and approval pathways.
- Exercise outstanding interpersonal skills to develop relationships with a wide range of clients and critical internal and external stakeholders.
- Be supported through an established team of 30+ urban planners with access to ongoing career development opportunities and mentoring.

You will share our genuine passion for re-imagining planning in the current environment and be someone that actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future.
You will also need:
- A relevant urban planning or environmental planning qualification
- High level of interest in working to support major infrastructure projects, including co-location with clients in project offices (where practicable)
- An understanding of the decision drivers of Commonwealth, State and local government to inform preparation of planning and environment approval strategies, site masterplans, and structure plans
- An understanding of the timing to secure planning and environmental approvals, and relationship with project delivery programmes
- Exposure to projects, understanding the importance of delivering on time and within budget.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with internal and external clients and decision-makers
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects.
