As an Assistant Secretary in the department, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team. You will support the Executive in the provision of advice to Government and contribute to the leadership, management and strategic direction setting of the department. You will manage, develop and implement major government and departmental initiatives; participate in both departmental and whole of government forums; and contribute to corporate leadership and capability development for the department, including building high performing teams.

In addition to your strategic acumen, you understand operational delivery and how to ensure that data lead solutions meet agency needs. You excel in stakeholder engagement, provide high-level advice, and have strong communication skills, quickly gaining the confidence of staff and senior management alike. Your personal drive, sound judgement, and focus on results enables you to build trust and respect within the organisation.

**Duties**
- Provide advice to the Minister, DVA Executive and colleagues across DVA on data and analytics
- Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy aligned with DVA’s strategic objectives.
- Oversee data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, privacy, and security.
- Lead the design and deployment of data analytics, reporting, data platforms and visualisation solutions, including advice on artificial intelligence solutions.
- Foster a culture of data literacy and data-driven decision-making within DVA.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and leverage data opportunities for operational and strategic improvements.
- Lead and inspire a team of data professionals, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.
- Manage teams to produce and develop high quality data reports based on a database architecture
- Represent DVA on data-related matters, including engaging in and with Australian Public Service
- led data initiatives.

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

**Mandatory Requirements**
- A relevant tertiary qualification in data science, information technology, business administration, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in data governance, analytics, or a related discipline.

**Notes**

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
