**The Role**
The Security and Estate Group (SEG) is seeking Policy Officers to support Defence's mission to defend Australia and its national interests. As a Policy Officer within SEG, you will provide general administrative support, manage information requests, and contribute to the preparation of internal reports and briefing papers. Your role will involve collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to foster effective working relationships and representing your work area at relevant meetings and forums.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Undertaking research and analysis to support the development of new policy;
- Supporting stakeholder engagement, including internal and external stakeholder consultation to support policy development;
- Assisting in the planning, drafting, editing and communication of policy documents and supporting material such as, papers, reports and reviews;
- Understanding and interpreting relevant legislation and regulations that impact our policies;
- Contributing to team and divisional capacity in policy, program support and/or communications and stakeholder engagement.

Seize the opportunity to make a significant impact with SEG today The SEG comprises four divisions (Infrastructure, Service Delivery, Security and Estate Transformation) that strengthen the links between security and the Defence Estate, and support Defence’s mission and the integrated, focused force outlined in the 2024 National Defence Strategy.

Our current Policy Officer vacancies exist in the following divisions:

- Defence Security Division - provides adaptable security services to Defence and Defence industry, and provides timely, considered guidance to all Defence employees. Your work here will contribute to securing Defence by developing, advising on, implementing and reviewing Defence security policies (domestic and international) to elevate national security.
- Estate Transformation Division - established in July 2024, this division is tasked with strengthening the resilience of the Defence Estate through Defence wide integration, reorientation and collaboration. Here you will contribute to process reform, Defence Estate optimisation, and engagement with central agencies on estate management policy and the implementation of Government direction and strategic intent. Developing and implementing strategic planning principles for the Defence Estate, leading implementation of Government decisions with respect to the Defence Estate Audit, property acquisitions, leasing, disposal and management of estate related native title are also key responsibilities of the division.
