The Systems Accounting Leader is responsible for leading the configuration, implementation, and oversight of the Finance Operations General Ledger system
**Key Responsibilities include**:
- Maintaining finance system architecture, documentation - Registry, GL, and other support systems.
- Refine and improve finance processes and systems e.g. core Acuity functionality, GL integration, Excel models. Ensure these processes are documented.
- Ensuring systems operate in accordance with policies.
- Implement systems changes resulting from new accounting standards, APRA and tax legislative changes.
- Support BAU and project teams in issue resolution with a focus on high quality data and SLA delivery.
- Build out capability on finance systems.
- Participate in the relevant workstreams relating to finance system changes.
- Ensure that the interests of Finance Operations more broadly are represented within Mercer.
- Build and manage relationship with the Data Quality team and Mercer Technology to ensure that Finance Operations is an active participate and beneficiary of these teams.
- Lead and drive initiatives that contribute to staff engagement, through career planning and development, act as a mentor and coach to staff.
- Review and analyse pre-existing financial systems for its effectiveness. Based on facts, develop new strategies to improve or further leverage the company’s financial system.
- Responsible for preparing the Finance Area for transition and implementation of new business processes as required
- Provide support as required to the Leader i.e. Ad-hoc project related work as required.
**What you need to have**:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce and Business studies or in an equivalent discipline
- Minimum 5-10 years in Financial Services Industry with strong systems related experience, change management, and demonstrated experience in leading projects.
- Demonstrated leadership, team focus and people management skills and the ability to work within targets and deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated understanding of planning and budgeting procedures and principles
- Demonstrated experience as an effective Finance Manager including the ability to positively influence stakeholders and maintain high levels of engagement
- A strong understanding of systems and technology aligned change management practices
- Demonstrated understanding of Project management and system development lifecycle methodologies
- Proven relationship management skills including diplomacy, interpersonal, influencing and customer service skills in order to develop and maintain relationships at all levels
- Excellent analytical evaluation, numeracy and problem solving skills
