**About the program**
JustACE (Justice, Advocacy, Connection, Empowerment) is a newly established program created to improve outcomes for people with cognitive impairment (PWCI) at all stages throughout the criminal justice system (CJS). Wellways delivers the JustACE program in partnership with BIAT. BIAT (The Brain Injury Association of Tasmania) is a state-wide, not-for-profit organisation that works with people with acquired brain injury (ABI) and stakeholders to offer advocacy, representation and support.
**About the opportunity**
In this newly created role, you will work directly with people with complex needs as they transition through the different stages of the criminal justice system and support them to live safe, independent, and meaningful lives in the community through creating positive connections, relationships, and networks.
**Some of your responsibilities include**:
- Screening and assessment, including but not limited to cognitive screening and assessment, assessment of immediate needs, risk, and crisis response.
- Care co-ordination utilising a strengths-based, person-centred approach to assist in increasing individual capacity and independence and less reliance on support services as applicable.
- Guide and advocate for persons navigating the CJS- including attending court or legal hearings with those who require additional support.
- Facilitate educational sessions in individual and group settings to enhance cognitive capacity for PWCI.
**What do you need?**
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (at least a diploma) in a relevant field (social work, psychology, health, criminology, community services, disability, other).
- Experience or capacity to learn group facilitation skills, with an appreciation for the fundamentals of adult learning
- Evidence of working rights within Australia
- Satisfactory National Police Records Check
- Current drivers' licence with the ability to undertake travel
- Working with Vulnerable Person's Check with NDIS Endorsement
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
- Evidence of COVID booster vaccination or valid medical exemption
