The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Youth IAP Worker to provide active response to young people requiring initial assessments and support those presenting at front-line services.

This is a 12 month fixed-term full-time position located in Sunshine, VIC.

The role you could play
- Assist clients to secure and maintain crisis accommodation options
- Complete comprehensive initial assessments (IAPs) for young people entering service for ongoing support and coordinate referrals
- Assess eligibility for a provision of Housing Establishment Funds and facilitation of access to other programs of financial assistance
- Maintain our youth hub in sunshine by making sure young people have access to food, drinks and limited necessities when presenting to the hub
- Develop connections and formalise partnerships with key stakeholders such as police, department of education, child protection and local business to respond to young people in the community who are sleeping rough or need access to support
- Assist clients to access support services and establish community supports, and where needed are assisted through advocacy with service providers

What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification in social sciences, welfare or related field with a degree qualification preferred. Relevant experience in a social service environment
- Knowledge of youth homelessness, crisis intervention and the ability to collaborate with other program areas
- Demonstrated skills in engaging & working with young people with complex support needs including AOD, mental health, out of home care and adolescent violence
- Working with Children Check
- Current Victorian Driver’s License
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
