About us As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders. QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners. Purpose of the role The Risk and Business Continuity Management unit is responsible for supporting all areas of QFES in delivering effective risk management through relevant processes to identify, analyse and respond to risk and ensure threats are mitigated against opportunities to enhance continued delivery of services to the community and achieve QFES strategic objectives. Reporting to the Principal Program Officer, you will be a key member of the team contributing to risk and business continuity throughout the state, ensuring they meet whole-of-government initiatives and QFES strategic objectives. You will assist in the development and implementation of an organisational risk maturity evaluation program and be responsible for assisting the team and providing support and guidance to QFES staff and volunteers in relation to risk and business continuity planning, organisational frameworks programs. Key requirements Highly desirable requirements - Knowledge and understanding of risk management and business continuity management methodologies. Your key accountabilities Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: - Contribute to the design, implementation and support of best practice approaches, frameworks and guidelines to enhance risk and business continuity management and compliance strategies. - Assist in the development of strategy, policy and processes to improve and promote risk management maturity and build a strong planning and risk management culture. - Provide advice and support to key stakeholders in organisational risk and business continuity management activities and provide recommendation for continuous improvement. - Assist in the delivery of training in the areas of identification and treatment of risks for business continuity to ensure risks are managed, meet compliance and build organisational capability. - Establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with internal and external stakeholders to effectively embed risk frameworks, processes and systems within the organisation. - Represent QFES at forums, committees and working parties relating to key strategies and issues to ensure positive outcomes for the department. - Assist in the preparation and review of reports, briefs, submissions, and correspondence to support business operations and decision-making processes, in accordance with departmental requirements. Contribute to a cohesive team environment by sharing information, supporting and assisting colleagues in a proactive manner, including to resolve issues or provide recommendation for improvement.
