A bit about the role
Reporting to the Director Urban Living, the Manager City Futures leads the department to help the City of Boroondara in creating liveable, safe, sustainable, enjoyable and vibrant communities through visionary land use, development and placemaking strategies and plans.
As the organisation continues on its transformation journey, you will play a lead role in enhancing processes and systems; customer experience and future focused strategic planning while providing empowering and supportive leadership to enhance the culture of a professional team of Coordinators and staff focussed on land use, urban design, heritage, environment, housing, activity centres, strategic plans and place making.
The Manager City Futures is influential in guiding Boroondara’s strategic planning and placemaking at a regional and city-wide scale. The Manager facilitates and embeds a culture and environment that encourages their team and to perform at their best. They provide clear direction and expectations while coaching, mentoring and monitoring performance. The Manager leads the development of department objectives, monitors departmental budgets and promotes and ensures compliance with all relevant legislation.
A bit about you
To be successful in this instrumental role, the City of Boroondara is seeking a contemporary, strategic, and people-focused leader who has experience leading a planning function from within the Government sector. You will bring extensive knowledge, experience and relevant qualifications in land use planning, placemaking and development concepts and principles, including social, economic and environmental factors coupled with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of State, regional and local planning strategies.
You are adept at forming credible and collaborative relationships with your key stakeholders and you are known for your contemporary thinking, ability to identify improvement opportunities and your focus on enhancing systems, processes and services that place customer experience at the centre of everything to deliver exceptional outcomes for the community.
You can balance both strategic and operational priorities, bring strong financial acumen and demonstrate exceptional people leadership with a proven ability to cultivate high performing teams. Humility, a determination to make a difference and being emotionally intelligent are non-negotiables.
