About the role
The Media Manager is responsible for the development, delivery and day to day execution of AGL’s media strategy. This role will be responsible for framing the discussion about AGL and associated major issues across media outlets to support the delivery of AGL’s strategic priorities. This person will possess strong knowledge of the media market and media writing skills and will drive a strategic and planned approach to proactive media engagement, while managing risks and issues as they emerge. The proven media relations practitioner will provide media counsel to senior managers throughout the business and proactively work with external media stakeholders to improve understanding of AGL, its strategy, customer offerings and Australia’s energy transition.
This is a 6 month max-term contract (full-time), based in Melbourne CBD.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide input into the AGL Media strategy.
- Deliver and execute tactics outlined in the media strategy.
- Act as Company spokesperson for AGL on corporate issues with media outlets as required, including responding to enquiries on an on-call basis shared within the team.
- Execute best practice proactive media relations and issues management.
- Deliver the media relations component of the relevant ET member’s annual engagement plan as part of the Communications Team.
- Develop ET and senior management external speeches.
- Develop media releases and execution plans for proactive announcements.
- Proactively find, develop and place news stories to support the Company’s priorities.
- Develop briefs for ET and senior management external engagements.
- Provide guidance and media relations expertise to AGL leaders as required, including conducting media training and preparation for media engagements.
What you’ll bring to the table
- Minimum 8+ years experience in communications and media relations.
- Proven capability to develop strategy, and influence issues through media management.
- Extensive experience in communications and media release and speech writing.
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills with an ability to manage complex issues within a sometimes-challenging media environment with competing stakeholder agendas.
- Understanding of best practice trends in media management, including innovation in the discipline.
- Proven experience working collaboratively with other corporate affairs disciplines and sub-functions to generate reputation outcomes.
- Sophisticated understanding of media practice, trends and tools, and the real and potential impact of these on stakeholder behaviour and corporate reputation.
