We are a complex organisation delivering 21 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 370,000 residents across 110km2.Located just nine kilometres southwest of the Sydney CBD, Canterbury Bankstown’s 41 suburbs form a highly urbanised metropolitan environment.
**The role**
A rewarding opportunity has presented itself for a dedicated and driven individual to join our Community Engagement Team.
The Community Engagement Officer facilitates community engagement with local residents, businesses and key stakeholders within CBCity. You will be implementing and coordinating community engagement forums, activities and events.
This dynamic role will also have a focus on implementing strategies to enable and encourage relevant groups and other interested/affected parties to actively participate in dealing with specific issues, as well as the future strategic direction of Council & the City.
This opportunity is offered on a Permanent Full-Time basis. Occasional evening and weekend work required.
**Duties will include but not be limited to**:
- Develop and implement consultation strategies and initiatives through various methods and techniques to encourage active participation in community engagement, across all business units.
- Support and assist the management of Council's Have Your Say engagement portal, managing website content and online engagement activities.
- Present information to relevant groups, businesses, schools and other stakeholders in the local community and Council to engage in feedback, in a coordinated way.
- Facilitate community consultation to understand service levels and to deliver agreed assessments of current and future standards and options, whilst ensuring all viewpoints are canvassed and acknowledged.
- Represent Council at external forums, working groups, committees etc.
- Assess and resolve complex problems regarding community members, Council volunteers, community organisations and service providers within the Local Government Area in relation to community issues.
- Complete administrative duties as necessary to the function, as well as identifying business improvements to the organisation.
- Participate in projects across the City Business and Engagement Unit which consists of City Events and Activation, City Marketing and
- Investment and Community Engagement, as required.
- Co-develop and co-manage project budgets, in coordination with the Coordinator Community Engagement and project business partners.
- Undertake acting Coordinator Community Engagement duties as and when required.

**You will have**
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in community engagement, dealing directly with community members.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in working with community members and customers, using a variety of tactics to engage with the community, undertaking community research, influencing decisions and providing advice to others on the most appropriate engagement strategies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and emerging community engagement approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise high levels of autonomy, while at the same time working effectively in a team-based environment that is outcomes focused.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering community engagement plans and activities.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in report writing.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation, with key stakeholders and with members of the community.
- Strong customer liaison skills & experience.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
This position requires you to hold a Current Drivers Licence and valid Working with Children Check.
Previous experience working within local government and with culturally and linguistically diverse communities is highly regarded but not essential.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $84,005 (Grade G, Step1) + 10.5% super.
